How to use Handheld Refractometer Correctly
1. Open the daylight plate and fill the daylight plate 3 - 4 drops of distilled water on the main prism. Afterward close the daylight plate so the water spreads across the entire surface of the prism. Be careful and make sure the entire surface of the prism no air bubles or dry spots. Allow the sample to remain on the prism for approximately 30 seconds before go to step #2. This will allow the sample to adjust to the ambient temperature of the refractometer.
2. Hold the daylight plate in the direction of a light source. Then look into the eyepiece. You will see a circular field with graduations down the center( you may have to focus the eyepiece for clearly see the graduations.) The upper portion of the field should be blue and the lower field should be white.(All the products have been calibrated by standard refractometer before being packed.)
3. While looking into the eyepiece, turn the Calibration screw until the boundary between the upper blue field and the lower white field meet exactly on Zero. Make sure ambient room temparature should be 20 degree celcius(Or 68 degree farenheit). Once complete, this instrument is calibrated for your current ambient room temperature. When working temperature of the room or environment(not the sample) changes by more than 5 degree farenheit, the recommended recalibrating is adviced for maintain accuracy.
